Do I need to clean my Garbage Disposal?

Do I need to clean my Garbage Disposal?

The answer is yes and no.

A garbage disposal is designed to be self-cleaning. The internal parts scour themselves. It is not a garbage can, so if used properly your efforts should be minimal.
So, what should you clean? The answer is that stopper, sometimes called a splash guard or sink baffle – some come out and some do not. Either way, they can get smelly. Simply use soap, water and old toothbrush.

Now, they can get clogged – stringy foods like celery, potato peels, bones, grease, nuts and egg shells are not friendly, as well as, coffee grounds, starchy foods and watch out for those produce stickers. Ice and small citrus peels are actually helpful for a healthy disposal.

If they do get clogged, don’t use your fingers, try a wooden spoon handle or
needle-nose pliers. For the adventurous among us some models come with a small wrench to use on the underside, back and forth to loosen the clog. Either way, you might need to find a reset button to be up and ready again.

More tips to avoid getting in this situation...run the water (cold) before you run the disposal, during and after for at least about 15 seconds to flush everything down!

Donna admits she has made all these mistakes over the years, but now
is very kind to her garbage disposal.
How about you?

Jessa has been busy this month! First with a Rotaract Club Charter Day celebration warmly welcoming esteemed guests from Southern California with a heartfelt airport pickup and a delicious welcome dinner that showcased our local cuisine. Their visit culminated in insightful mastermind sessions where they delved into the future of our partnership and mapped out a vision for the club that transcends borders.

Together with their guests from Southern California, Jessa and her group embarked on a journey of humanitarianism, sponsoring and hosting an outreach project that touched the hearts of over 120 families with children facing disabilities in a village in Iloilo, Philippines. Through the joint flagship initiative ‘Project Be Happy’ - a collaboration between Ulikid Parent’s Organization, Inc. and Christian Entrepreneur Club’s Cody and Esther Cottle - they brought warmth, kindness, and support, spreading hope and love throughout the community.
